Friends of Burde Street Ponds Society

Proposed coalition of interested parties

We are reaching out to a variety of large conservation land trusts, as well as canvassing local businesses and local citizens.

The society is raising funds to purchase the three properties surrounding the ponds.

The City of Port Alberni, local residents, local First Nations, all levels of government and other interested parties have an opportunity to work together to protect habitat for local species at risk.

Indigenous knowledge and cultural significance

Consultation on Indigenous knowledge and cultural significance should take place before any changes to the land’s status.

Community record keeping

Records from trail keepers, nature clubs, birders and photographers can contribute to documenting the site’s wildlife and habitats.

Protecting the ponds would preserve wildlife habitat and clean water in Port Alberni for future generations.
