The Burde Street Ponds

The Burde Street Ponds, known locally as the Beaver Ponds, and the surrounding riparian areas and forest occupy three lots at 3333 Burde Street. The lots lie on both sides of the Log Train Trail, north of the Burde Street entrance.

The three lots are being offered together in a court-ordered sale for $7 million.

Keeping the land surrounding the ponds undeveloped protects wildlife habitat and preserves the area for future generations.

Friends of Burde Street Ponds Society

The Friends of Burde Street Ponds (FoBSP) Society was formed two years ago in response to a proposal for 1,200 housing units on the 73 acres surrounding the ponds.

After the property owner, the San Group, went bankrupt, the society’s work paused while the debts were being resolved.

The property is now up for sale to help pay those debts. The society is raising funds to purchase all three properties around the ponds.

The ponds’ accessibility makes them a valuable place for nature study and for teaching children about wetlands within the city.
